My Love for Manufacturing

What do I love most about STEM? Manufacturing!

Why? Growing up my father was a maintenance engineer for AlliedSignal.  He was the one they called and wanted to be close in case issues occurred on the manufacturing line. He would come home and share how he would assess and address the issues faced in the world of manufacturing. His love for manufacturing became my love for manufacturing.

October 3rd is Manufacturing Day, and it addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry. Happy New School Year, PLTW East Bay!

My name is Tiffany E. Grant, and along with April Treece of the STEW Workforce Initiative of the Contra Costa Economic Partnership (CCEP), we focus on creating pathways in public education institutions to increase the workforce pipeline into STEM-related careers. PLTW partners with CCEP in the East Bay in forming dynamic partnerships with schools and businesses in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties to increase the number and diversity of students achieving success in the STEM fields.
